In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, we've introduced free parking throughout December in Ayr town centre.
For the whole of this month, parking is free in all on street pay and display bays, as well as in our car parks at Barns Crescent, Charlotte Street and Kyle Street. Limits to the length of stay will still apply.
With more businesses set to reopen this Friday (12 December) we're hoping shoppers will take advantage of the free parking, and spend their money on the high street.
Councillor Peter Henderson, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: "Supporting local businesses is a priority for us, and I'm sure that suspending parking charges in December will be a welcome boost for retailers. I hope that this will help to encourage more people to shop in stores in the town centre during the run up to Christmas, and for the subsequent sales.
"I would however like to remind everyone that it's extremely important to continue to follow Scottish Government guidance on physical distancing, face masks and good hand hygiene when you are out and about. As travel restrictions remain in place - even after the move to Level 3, from 6.00pm on Friday 11 December, we should not travel outwith our own local authority area. This gives us even more of an incentive to shop local and support local retailers and businesses."
